About me
My passion for using a camera has been a life long interest. From a young age I had an eye for symmetry, and as I have gotten older, I have looked for new ways to construct my images. This is a passion that has found me more often than not, being friend's personalised photographer. My biggest interest has been in nature and landscapes, which led into work in extreme sports while at university living in Lake District of Cumbria (UK). It was there that I started my film work, creating short video's of people's sporting exploits. It is also here where I learned to edit, using (the now dated) Final Cut Pro 7. I found that like my eye for symmetry, the process of editing was more in the feel of its flow, rather than any strict formula. I would volunteer to edit my friends's films enjoying putting together like a puzzle, whose pieces I cut, and resulted in a piece of art.In 2013 I started my bachelors in Film Production at The University for the Creative Arts, in Farnham, UK. It was here that I began work in fiction film, and documentary. Coming to the course I knew that my interests lay in cinematography, but I chose to use this opportunity to learn more about the other aspects of film production. So in my first year though I started my first project working the camera in a small documentary ('Shrubb' 2014), my second project I opted for the role of director. The project was shot on 16mm film using a Bolex camera ('The Little Things' 2015), and while I directed, I was very much apart of the camera department. In this year I also opted to help on a graduation film ('Leon' N. Glendinning, 2015), and a second year fiction film working as a runner. The following year I worked in sound recording and design (using ProTools 11), and took a specialism in editing where I learned how to use Avid Media Composer. Through this time I took opportunities to work on other films where I could. Most of the time this meant working as a runner, or sometime a grip/spark, but I found all of it to be invaluable experience.
Finishing my final year now, I have gone above and beyond the last three years, and worked on a total of 6 films in the last 3 months. Four of which I took on as Director of Photography, one as Producer, Director and Director of Photography, and the last as a 1st AC.
