Highlights
-
I was Exec producer for a university short film: this small production role was eye-opening. In a typical day, I communicated what each person had to do within the production, what goals they had to achieve, and finally making sure they did what they set out to do. I oversaw the director, editor, lighting, sound, actors, floor manager, stage production and camera operators. I made sure everyone did their jobs with leadership, team building exercises and encouragement. In the end, the production was a success- it was organised. We maintained high production values and my team were happy with their work. I learned that communication is the keystone to a successful team, and that treating people with respectfully is the best way to keep happiness in a work environment. Everyone had a chance to blossom. My co-workers commented on how I was always calm and in control of the hectic environment I was in. The hardest part was maintaining a sense of order and a relaxed environment for people to feel happy and work; I rose above this challenge and overall my colleagues felt efficient and effectively supervised. The best part of the job is working with people, seeing the entire project come together at the end. It’s a great learning experience.
I have also been director for four small productions, as well as other smaller roles.
