About me
Kim Blanchette is an award winning stop-motion and computer animator with international acclaim. He has over 20 years of experience animating in the entertainment industry working on feature films, TV shows, and commercials.Over his career Blanchette has animated on over 20 feature films, breaking new ground in animation on such landmark films as “Toy Story,” “Nightmare Before Christmas,” and “Jurassic Park.” Other notable features include Coraline, Paranorman and most recently Charlie Kaufman’s highly acclaimed “Anormalisa.”
Mr. Blanchette also has extensive experience animating on TV commercials, music videos, and TV series such as “Land of the Lost,” “The PJ’s,” and “Robot Chicken.” He’s worked abroad in Australia, Japan, and Poland and has gained international recognition animating the highly acclaimed Japanese “Cup of Noodles” ad campaign. This series of commercials featured animated prehistoric mammals being chased by hapless cavemen won numerous awards and considered the Cinderella story at the 1993 Cannes International Advertising Festival where it won the Grand Prix Award.
Blanchette also played a leading role in an innovative paper cut-out Superbowl commercial in ’05 that won numerous advertising awards including an Annie Award for Best Animated Commercial of the Year. This United Airline "Dragon" commercial was also the project that Blanchette worked closely with the Caliri Brothers to develop the Dragonframe animation software. Dragonframe has since gone on to become the industry standard software used in stop motion cinematography.
One of Blanchette's favorite creations was developing an animated character for Playhouse Disney. He played a major role in developing “Clay,” a clay animated character who instantly captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults around the world. Focus groups demonstrated Clay to be Disney’s most popular and endearing character to ever to grace the small screen. Blanchette was responsible for developing Clay’s character, personality, and unique clay animation technique that helped transform him from a lifeless lump of clay into the yellow ball of joy audiences around the world fell in love with.
